About

What JPG to PNG does

Convert JPG photos to PNG, the lossless format: every edit and save from here on keeps the pixels exactly as they are. Use it when a form or app asks for PNG, or before editing a photo you will save many times.

Everything happens on your own machine: the file is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser, and never leaves your device. There is no upload, no queue and no account.

Why this one

Why use JPG to PNG here

  • No further loss

PNG is lossless: however many times you edit and save it from here, the pixels stay exactly as they are.

  • What the form asks for

When a website, app or print service only takes PNG, this gets your photo in, one file or a batch.

  • Honest sizes

A PNG of a photo is bigger than the JPG, and each file shows its size before and after, so there are no surprises.

  • Nothing is uploaded

Your photos are converted by your own browser and never leave your device.

How it works

How to use JPG to PNG

  1. Drop your JPG files onto the page, click to choose them, or paste one from the clipboard.

  2. PNG is already chosen. There is no quality to set: PNG keeps every pixel as it is.

  3. Each image converts as soon as it is added, and shows its size before and after.

  4. Download one image, or all of them as a ZIP.

Questions

Frequently asked

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

Drop the JPG files here. Each is converted to PNG straight away; download them one at a time or together as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded.

Will converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG keeps what is there exactly, but it cannot bring back detail the JPG compression already removed. What you gain is that nothing more is lost from here on.

Does it make the background transparent?

No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque too. Cutting a subject out of its background is a different job, for a background remover.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws detail away to save space. For a photo, the PNG is often several times the size.

Is JPEG the same as JPG?

Yes. They are the same format with two spellings of the file extension, and both convert here.

Can I convert several JPGs at once?

Yes. Drop them all; they convert together and download as one ZIP, with no limit on the number.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are converted inside this page, on your device, and saved straight back to it. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no copy anywhere else to delete.
