About
What Word to PDF does
Turn a Word document into a PDF that keeps what Word shows: its fonts, tables, pictures, charts, equations, headers and footers, footnotes, links and bookmarks. The pages are laid out in your browser by Word's own rules, so lines and pages break where Word breaks them.
Everything happens on your own machine: the file is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser, and never leaves your device. There is no upload, no queue and no account.

Questions
Frequently asked
How do I convert a Word document to PDF?
Drop the .docx or .doc file here. It is laid out and converted as soon as it arrives, with the pages shown as they are drawn. Press Download to save the PDF.
Can I convert Word to PDF without Microsoft Word?
Yes. The document is laid out in your browser by Word's own rules, so you need neither Word nor any other Office app installed.
Is Word to PDF free?
Yes, with no limits, no sign-up and no watermark, and the document is never uploaded.
Will the PDF look exactly like the document in Word?
Very close. The layout follows Word's rules for line spacing, page breaks, widows and orphans, tables split across pages and footnotes, and text is measured as Word measures it. When a font the document uses isn't available here, a look-alike draws it. For Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New and many other common Windows fonts, the text keeps the original's exact widths, so lines still break in the same places. The panel lists every font that was substituted.
Can it use the fonts installed on my computer?
Yes, in Chrome and Edge. When a document uses a font that isn't built in, the tool offers to use your computer's fonts, and your browser asks your permission first. The fonts are read in your browser and never leave your device.
What happens to tracked changes and comments?
By default the PDF shows the document with every change accepted, the way Word prints it. If the document has tracked changes or comments, you can choose Markup instead: insertions and deletions appear in each reviser's colour, with a change bar in the margin, and comments become notes on the page.
Can I convert a password-protected document?
Yes, if you know the password. The tool asks for it and opens the document in your browser; the password is never sent anywhere. Documents protected with rights management (IRM) can't be opened here, because their key comes from a server rather than a password.
Is the PDF accessible?
It is tagged, as Word's own export is. Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links and pictures with their alt text are marked up, so screen readers can follow the document. Headings also become the PDF's bookmarks.
Can I convert several documents at once?
Yes. Drop them together and each converts in turn. Download them as a zip of separate PDFs, or as one PDF with the documents in the order shown, each under a bookmark of its own. You can reorder or remove documents before you download.
Does it take old .doc files?
Yes, documents from Word 97 to Word 2003 convert like any other. Files from Word 6 or Word 95, and .doc files protected with a password, can't be opened here: open them in Word, save them as .docx, and drop that in instead.
